Once common throughout Africa, elephant numbers were severely depleted during the 20th century, largely due to the massive ivory trade. While some populations are now stable and growing, poaching, conflict and habitat destruction continue to threaten the species.

Elephant Darting Experience
Ranger Buck Safaris arranges exclusive access to elephants during the darting process and the subsequent research work undertaken by the authorities.
Guests will be transported to the scene either by overland game viewer vehicle or by helicopter depending on where the elephant has been located in the wild. On arrival at the scene you will witness the darting of the elephant from the helicopter and the subsequent efforts to immobilize the animal. Once it is safe you will be guided by our professional crew and wildlife vet to assist ‘hands-on’ with the vital tasks that are crucial to the success of the conservation experience.
Guest Activities
Assisting to manoeuvre the animal into a safe position.
Monitoring vital signs of the animal.
Colouring the elephant for identification purposes.
Recording important measurements including length of tusks, teeth, body length.
